Frequently Asked Questions

How do I log a meal?

Tap the + in the bottom tab bar. You can:

• Snap a photo — the AI identifies what's on your plate and returns macros + 29 micronutrients
• Describe it — type "Greek yogurt with berries" and the AI fills in the rest
• Scan a barcode — for packaged foods, instant nutrition lookup via Open Food Facts
• Voice note — say what you ate; speech-to-text happens on-device

Why does the AI sometimes get the calories wrong?

AI food estimation is impressive but not perfect. After every analysis, you can:

• Tap a macro field to edit the value directly
• Tap an ingredient row to adjust its quantity (calories rescale automatically)
• Add or remove ingredients before saving

How do I delete my account?

Profile (avatar in the header) → Settings → Delete Account. After two confirmations, your account, profile, all logged meals, snapshots, achievements, and uploaded photos are deleted from our servers within seconds. The deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

How do I export my data?

Profile → Settings → Export My Data. You'll get a JSON file containing your profile, meals, daily snapshots, achievements, and weight entries. Useful for personal backup or moving to another tool.

Why is my Apple Watch data different from the iPhone app?

The Watch app caches the most recent data from your iPhone. If they're out of sync, ensure both are signed into the same iCloud account, the iPhone app is open, and the Watch is connected. The Watch falls back to cached data when out of range — you'll see "Last updated 5 min ago" on the watch face.

How do I connect WHOOP, Oura, or Withings?

Profile → Connected Devices → tap the service. You'll be sent through OAuth to the provider's site, sign in there, and return to Pack Animal automatically. After connecting, daily syncs happen in the background.

Do I need to allow location access?

Only if you want suggestions for nearby friends and groups. The app works fully without location access — that feature just won't suggest people in your area. Location is used at query time only and not stored.

Can I use Pack Animal without sharing my data with friends?

Yes. Settings → Privacy → toggle "Hide food details" and "Hide macro details" to keep your meals private. Your daily score is still visible on leaderboards, but specific meal contents are not.

How is HealthKit data used?

HealthKit data is read-only on-device. It is never sent to our servers or any third party. We use it to enhance your nutrition tracking (e.g., reading your weight or steps) and to write nutrition data back to Apple Health if you've granted that permission.

Status

Pack Animal is currently shipping version 3.0. There are no known service outages. If something seems broken on a wide scale, we'll post an update here.
